Deadly Israeli Air Strike on Vehicle in Gaza City Leaves Two Dead and 13 Injured Despite Truce

At least two Palestinians were killed and 13 others sustained injuries on Sunday following an Israeli air strike targeting a vehicle in Gaza City, according to local medical personnel. The deadly bombardment struck the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, once again shattering the relative calm in the besieged enclave and underscoring the extreme fragility of the current United States-brokered ceasefire.

Emergency responders and witnesses described severe devastation at the scene of the blast. Authenticated video documentation showed the targeted automobile reduced to a scorched, mangled shell, with its structural framework collapsed, roof shredded, and doors blasted away by the force of the explosion.

Health officials in the enclave reported that the intensity of the strike caused catastrophic trauma, leaving the bodies of the two deceased individuals severely dismembered. The extreme physical damage prompted medical authorities to issue an urgent public appeal for assistance from local residents to help establish the identities of the deceased victims.

In addition to the two fatalities, at least 13 bystanders and nearby residents suffered various wounds from the blast and flying shrapnel. Medical teams rushed the injured to local healthcare facilities that have long been strained by prolonged conflict and critical resource shortages across the territory.

Following the attack, the Israeli military released a statement acknowledging the strike. Defense officials asserted that the targeted operation had specifically aimed at two Hamas fighters who were traveling in the vehicle at the time of the explosion.

The Sunday strike represents the latest incident in a persistent pattern of near-daily military operations carried out by Israeli forces across the war-torn Palestinian territory. These continuous assaults have persisted despite an official cessation of hostilities agreed upon by both Israel and Hamas in October of the previous year.

The fragile framework, mediated by the United States, was intended to halt major fighting and establish a pathway toward lasting stability. However, local health authorities report that more than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed in continuous Israeli military strikes throughout the Gaza Strip since the supposed truce formally took effect.

Hamas officials have repeatedly condemned the recurrent Israeli operations, characterizing them as direct and flagrant breaches of the agreed-upon ceasefire terms. The group has asserted that these ongoing strikes are intentionally designed to derail the broader peace initiative spearheaded by US President Donald Trump.

The comprehensive diplomatic roadmap put forward by the Trump administration was designed to permanently end the devastating conflict in the enclave. Under the proposed parameters, the agreement envisions a phased and eventual complete withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from Gaza, alongside the full disarmament of Hamas.

The deadly incident in Gaza City occurred immediately following public statements delivered by President Trump during an official visit to Ireland on Saturday, in which the American leader offered a highly positive assessment of his administration’s Middle East policy and the prevailing situation in the territory.

Addressing reporters, President Trump staunchly defended his diplomatic record, asserting that major hostilities had effectively been extinguished. He stated that his administration had successfully quelled the active fighting while securing the liberation of all remaining captives held in the territory.

"We put out the fire, and we got all the hostages back," President Trump remarked during his Irish visit. "There’s very little happening right now in Gaza."

The US president further maintained that regional dynamics were moving in a constructive direction, claiming that diplomatic engagement surrounding the enclave had shown notable progress. "If you look at Gaza, there’s a lot of good relationships taking place right now. It’s been quite amazing. I think we’ve done a great job," he added.

However, the reality on the ground for Gaza’s civilian population presents a stark contrast to these optimistic diplomatic appraisals, as daily strikes and growing casualty lists continue to define daily life in the enclave. The persistence of lethal military actions has left residents in constant peril, with little practical distinction between active warfare and the nominal truce.

The broader conflict has exacted a catastrophic humanitarian toll on the Palestinian territory since its escalation in October 2023. According to official data from local health authorities, the overall death toll from Israel's military campaign has surpassed 73,669 people, with the vast majority of the documented casualties consisting of women and children.
